Hi, my name is Andy. This is my website. If we've never met, the picture to the left is me. In case you're wondering, the image is of me walking out of this neat door-shaped cutout on a hedge beside the Louvre. That's a museum in Paris. The Mona Lisa hangs there behind a thick panel of glass and many angry security guards.
This website is my virtual work room, although a bit tidier. I do a little of a lot, and a lot of a select fewer paths. Photography is my driving force, but my background molds it. That is probably how it is for most, but here is my unique spin on it. I enjoy writing, acting, film, computers… all of these reflect back into the work I create. This constant desire to tell stories and entertain a viewer keeps me motivated through life. If I'm not making an image, I'm writing a story snippet. My dreams are inhabited by mental short films. And when I sit down to edit, my screen draws me in to a zone where daylight and nighttime become simple casualties to the greater importance of perfection.
2009 was a good year. I had three solo exhibitions with two separate bodies of work. There is a chance I have work hanging in a gallery near you right now, or in an art magazine on your living room table. Browse through it once you are done at this site. I finished my MFA at Louisiana Tech University and then worked at the Maine Media Workshops, where I managed their digital service bureau and served as faculty.
2010 looks to be even better. I'm working on a completely new photo series that pulls from sketches I've made for many years, merged with photo practices I have dabbled with but now want to explore thoroughly. In the summer, I'll be back in Maine leading a wide assortment of workshops. My faculty page will contain the most current offerings.
For some of what else I do, this website is here for your benefit. I like to write prose, so there's a fair amount on here that spans back to the late 90's or so. I've written and performed a few plays, so they're online in case you want to recreate them. I don't really care for poetry, but I've done one or three in my life so I uploaded them for kicks. Also during the course of an education, I've written a decent amount of essays and they'd die of binary rot if I didn't do something else with them, so they're online too.
My video work is available. It spans back years. You can tell the date by the quality standard, but many of the old short films hold special places in my heart. Recent video files are online that contain a hybrid of photography and nonlinear editing, with content that proves my need to create stories and the results such an obsession creates.
Contact me after your visit. I'm eager to meet those who stop by and hang around for a bit.
