Hi, my name is Andy. This is my website. It is my virtual workroom, although a bit tidier than the physical one. I do a little of a lot, and a lot of a select fewer paths. Photography is my driving force, but my background molds it. That is probably how it is for most, but here is my unique spin on it. I enjoy writing, acting, film, computers… all of these reflect back into the work I create. This constant desire to tell stories and entertain a viewer keeps me motivated through life. If I'm not making an image, I'm writing a story snippet. My dreams are inhabited by mental short films. And when I sit down to edit, my screen draws me in to a zone where daylight and nighttime become simple casualties to the greater importance of perfection.
Professionally, I am an assistant professor of photography at West Virginia Wesleyan College. There I am creating a new photography concentration for students’ BA degree. I am introducing a diverse range of course offerings, and have previously taught a wide assortment of photography topics at both Cecil College and Louisiana Tech University. I like photography courses that also dabble in video production and even a hint of creative writing. I have created a course called "Fictional Photography," named after my MFA thesis. It's an odd hybrid course on storytelling for the still image. I dig it. In the summers, I am an instructor at the Maine Media Workshops. It's a great place to unwind by exhausting myself and the students in nonstop photography every day. My faculty page will contain the current workshops I am leading.
For other projects, this website is here for your benefit. A few of my motion-based works are available. Plus, I like to write, so there's a fair amount on here. Often my stories end up as photographs, but every so often, a story is written for the intent of being read. In those cases, I often turn to the neurotic first person perspective. Also during the course of an education, I've written a decent amount of essays and they'd die of binary rot if I didn't do something else with them, so they're online too. Plus, my students have made some fantastic work over the years, so some is also available under the projects tab.
Contact me after your visit. I'm eager to meet those who stop by and hang around for a bit. Also, be sure to connect with me on Facebook by clicking the “Like” button on the front of the page. Thanks for checking out the site!
